5x5 game board
Setup
A♠ and A♣ are separated and placed face down.
2 red checkers are used by the active player to claim
4 black checkers are used by the defender to block
K♦ through A♦ and K♣ ->2♣ are shuffled into a deck, from which 24 cards are dealt. 8 go to the defender, and 16 to the attacker. These cards correspond to positions on the board in color and rank. The final card is discarded for the duration of the game. The rest of the cards are assembled in a 5x5 board as follows:
K♠ Q♠ J♠ 10♠ 9♠
4♠ 5♠ 6♠ 7♠ 8♠
3♠ 2♠ A♥ 2♥ 3♥
8♥ 7♥ 6♥ 5♥ 4♥
9♥ 10♥ J♥ Q♥ K♥
Gameplay
One player picks up the A♠ and A♣ and places them face down. The other player picks a card; whomever picks the A♠ chooses to attack or defend.
The attacker draws 4 cards from their stack. They reveal 2, and place 2 face down. They may choose to claim one of their face up cards, placing a red checker on the corresponding color/rank space on the board. This space may not be blocked by the defender. They may not claim both face up cards on one turn, or two face up cards on their first and second turns.
The defending player draws two cards and places them facedown, and chooses any space on the board not claimed by the active player to block.
Winning
The attacker wins if he has has any combination of face up and face down cards corresponding to three in a row on the board after the defender has blocked at the end of the round.
